Why repair a chip
Click on one of the key reasons listed below to see why you should get a car windscreen chip repaired as soon as you spot it.
The five main reasons
A chip can crack at anytime
A car windscreen chip could turn into a crack at any time, often when you are least expecting it. If this happens when you are driving, it could have a serious effect on your safety.
Your windscreen provides up to 30% of the vehicle’s structural strength and the passenger airbag relies on the windscreen to provide support if the airbag deploys. Repairing a chip will result in your windscreen being as strong as before the damage happened.
It only takes 30 minutes
Repairing a chip is quicker than replacing a whole windscreen. A windscreen chip can be repaired in under 30 minutes. Our mobile technicians can come to you at home, at work or wherever you are.
A repair is usually free and normally won’t affect a no claims bonus
If you have fully comprehensive vehicle insurance, or vehicle insurance including cover for glass damage, you only usually need to cover the excess.
What’s more, it normally won’t affect any no claims bonus that you may have.
Reduce the risk of failing an MOT
If a windscreen chip is in the drivers line of vision, it only has to be bigger than 10mm for your windscreen to fail its MOT.
Repair is hassle free
You do not have to deal with your insurance company at all. Simply let Autoglass® take care of all your paperwork for you if you are claiming the repair on your vehicle insurance.
PLEASE NOTE however that we rely upon you, the customer, to confirm details of your vehicle glass cover. If you're unsure, we can - at your request - contact your insurance company on your behalf to confirm that you have glass cover (along with your excess if any), get their approval to carry out the work and, as appropriate, take care of all the paperwork involved.
If there's anything for you to pay, you still don't need to contact your insurance company, as we are also able to collect the payment from you direct.
